WELCOME TO DERBY MIDDLE SCHOOL!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The middle school years are unlike any other in your child’s educational journey. Being a student in middle school can be challenging at times, with heightened academic expectations, social change, emotional and physical transitions, etc. However, despite these ongoing challenges, I have continually been amazed by the honesty, talent, curiosity, humor, and empathy I have witnessed in middle schoolers over the years. Middle schoolers are at a very important stage in their human development, and at DMS we take very seriously the responsibility to provide our students with the social, emotional, and academic support that is key to their success!
This year at DMS, literacy initiatives in reading and writing, mathematics, and technology include the utilization of Expeditionary Learning and the full implementation of the Illustrative Mathematics Program. As well as the issuance of Chromebooks to ALL DMS students, continuing to have DMS as a full 1:1 school. In the coming months we hope to continue to offer after-school programs for our students to grow, represent DMS athletically; and participate in a myriad of clubs, activities, organizations, and service opportunities. At DMS, we want there to be something for everyone...if your child has an idea that is currently not offered, just let us know!
