Welcome to Derby Middle School! We are proud to educate the sixth, seventh and eighth graders of “Connecticut’s Smallest City”. Originally settled as early as 1622, Derby was established in 1675 receiving its name from across the Atlantic, Derby, England. Derby was later incorporated just before the Revolutionary War, May 13, 1775. Over the centuries Derby has relied on the benefits of being established at the confluence of the Housatonic River and the Naugatuck River, providing transportation and power for growing industries. Geographically Derby occupies five square miles along these two rivers and supports just under 13,000 residents. The Derby Public Schools educates students from pre-school through twelfth grade. Derby Middle School was opened in January of 2010 and offers the latest educational structures for teachers and students. Students are provided with one to one laptops and connectivity to allow them to explore the best that the internet has to offer. The faculty at DMS is a close-knit family of professionals that emphasize academic, social, and emotional growth during these middle years. Sharing the same campus as Derby High School, DMS gets to reap the benefits of many of the high school programs as well. Derby Middle School is indeed a special place, one that will help students bloom into respectful, inquisitive, and determined young adults.
